Audiobook Production Services

We handle every step of making your audiobook, from finding the narrator to delivering files ready for Audible, Spotify and other retailers. Here's how it works.

Man shouting into a megaphone

Audition it.

The narrator shapes how listeners experience your book. We suggest narrators who suit it, whether that's a calming voice for a bedtime story, an energetic one for a fast-paced book, or someone who can bring out complex characters. You listen to their demos and choose. See how narrator auditions work.

Silhouette of a narrator speaking into a studio microphone

Record it.

Your narrator records the book in their own sessions. Everything that comes after depends on that original recording, so it has to be clean from the start. Narrating your own book? Record wherever suits you, or Dominic can work with you in remote recording sessions over Sessionwire.

Open book page, close up

Proof it.

Narrators caught up in a story sometimes slip on a word or read a line differently from how it's written. We check the recording against the manuscript and flag every misread. The narrator re-records those lines, so every word matches the book.

Audio editor working at a studio desk with monitors

Edit it.

Microphones pick up tiny mouth and nose sounds you'd never notice in conversation. We remove them, along with slips and stray noises, so nothing pulls the listener out of the story. Breaths are handled the way you want.

Mastering compressor with a glowing VU meter

Master it.

Volume drifts during a recording, louder in some places and quieter in others, especially when a book is recorded over many sessions. Mastering evens it out so the whole book sounds full and consistent, and listeners never have to reach for the volume control.

Studio mixing console for a final quality check

QC it.

We listen to the whole book one last time for errors and inconsistencies, then check it against the technical requirements of Audible, Spotify and other retailers. Your finished WAV files come back to you through your shared Dropbox folder.

Audiobook production questions

How much experience does your team have?

Sounds and Such has more than 15 years in audio recording, nearly a decade of it in audiobooks. Our team has produced close to 250 titles with our narrators, so your book is handled by people who do this every day.

Who do you produce audiobooks for?

We work with publishers, literary agents and indie authors. Whether you're producing one title or a full list, we handle narration, recording, proofing, editing, mastering and quality control under one roof.

What do you need from me to get started?

Email hello@soundsandsuch.com with a few details about your book, like the genre and length, and we'll walk you through the process. Once we're underway, we'll need the final version of your manuscript, ideally as a Word document or PDF.

What do I get at the end?

You get finished WAV files that have passed our final quality-control and technical check for Spotify, Audible and other retailers. They come back to you through the same shared Dropbox folder we use throughout the project.

How long does full production take?

It depends on the book and on the narrator's workflow, so there's no fixed timeline, and it can take longer than editing and mastering alone. Tell us about your book and any deadline you're working to, and we'll talk it through. Here’s what a typical production timeline looks like.
